Because Actively is a B2B2C company, it has the added hurdle of user acquisition after a successful sales process with the business. One of the ways we’ve reduced friction and made it simple for people to start using our product was through their first interaction with us; onboarding.
The product team and I first outlined every possible scenario in which a user can come to us. Once we understood all avenues and intersections, we created a rather comprehensive flow diagram to illustrate it. We created 3 versions, simplifying it each time until it was reduced to the simplest form to begin development. We will expand modularly into the next version when appropriate until the entire flow has been built. We didn’t want this task to detract from the engineering team’s greater goals, but we also needed a system in place to collect signups and onboard users.
We also knew that the onboarding process from a user perspective had to be fast and easy. In order to do this, we collect just enough user-information to verify their identity and then they’re connected with us and the studios they frequent. No login, no passwords. The whole process takes under 2 minutes for the user.
