A Food Delivery Service with a Twist
Flavorism is a food delivery service that allows its customers to purchase meals from multiple restaurants in a single order. The company supplies up to 17 restaurants with individual space within a large commercial kitchen as well as a delivery service. The vendors cook each meal according to its ticket then set them aside to be distributed by order number, packed, and delivered.
The company wanted to make it easier for their customers to order by providing a custom app. With such a unique business model, I spent a lot of time and care stepping through how a user would want to use it.
This project required spending a day on-site with the client, learning how the company works and their future ambitions. From there, my role was to create all UX design work, branding, mockups, interactive prototypes, and work with a team of engineers.
I also wanted to avoid any feeling of overwhelm when using the app. We’ve all been in situations where you’re beyond hungry, perhaps bordering hangry, so you logically open a food delivery app only to spend the next 30+ minutes scrolling in indecisiveness and ultimately ending up full-on hangry. I’ve been there and I don’t wish that upon anyone! To solve for that, I added an element of discovery by highlighting types of food (salad, sandwiches, soup) to drill down from. As a digital food court, it was important to give each restaurant limelight while also helping the user discover their options without adding overwhelm.
And to make it easy for people who already know what they want, I gave them the ability to skip straight to a restaurant or quickly switch to a different restaurant with a button in the center-bottom of the app making all the restaurants always accessible.
After wireframes and client approval, I set out to rebrand the company to bring in a cohesive feel. That set the groundwork in laying out the visual design.
This app is currently under development and will be released at the end of summer 2018.
