Actively | Multi-Studio Fitness App

A Solution For Everyone

This app design was featured by Product Hunt.

Meet Susan — she’s a late 20’s professional working in finance in Flatiron and lives in Williamsburg. She loves socializing with her friends, going to new restaurants, and staying fit. For her, staying fit doesn’t mean going to a gym and aimlessly running on a treadmill; it’s going to boutique fitness classes where each workout is engaging, unique and effective (think Barry’s Bootcamp and Flywheel). After a few months trying out different studios, she ultimately settled on 5 studios that she consistently visits on a monthly basis; 2 studios in her neighborhood, 2 near her office, and 1 that’s a chain and has locations near both home and work.

Susan isn’t a unique use case, but is rather the norm today. About 87% of boutique fitness patrons frequent 2 or more studios; but there is currently no solution on the market that takes that into account.

Actively has created a multi-studio booking & management app to help people like Susan stay in control of their fitness regime in a single place. No more jumping around from app to app or poorly designed websites to perform simple actions.

I designed this app with personalization and efficiency at its core. For example, if you frequent a chain like Susan, you don’t want to see the studio’s schedule at their FiDi location if you live in Williamsburg; you would only want to see what’s relevant to you in order to avoid being over inundated with information. To account for this, the top portion of the app contains a “Quick Picks” button where it shows the user a schedule of classes they are most likely to book based on historical data, user-preferences, and schedule matching. Schedule matching is a simple calendar integration that enables the app to only show classes that do not conflict with the user’s schedule, work/home locations, or preferences.

Within that same element, the user can easily switch between their favorite studios to view the full schedule. From the schedule screen, the user can book classes quickly and easily. The “manage” screen allows users to quickly cancel booked classes as well as see their active packages.

When designing this app, it was incredibly important to not detract from studio brand recognition with our own brand. To solve for this, I designed the app to support and highlight each studio’s brand wherever appropriate while unifying it all under Actively’s brand colors.
